Q: What is fate?
A: It is called Woon Myung in Korean. Woon means to carry, to drive, and to convey; Myung means life. Therefore, fate is something that carries and drives life.
Q: What is this ‘something’?
A: I think it is karma.
Q: I thought fate is something innate and unchangeable.
A: Karma from previous life can also be innate, but it is changeable. Fate is changeable too.
Q: I think many people are wondering if the thing named fate really exists. Could you explain about it a little bit more?
A: The word fate is just a name and concept. It means it does not belong to the ontological object. The important thing is that fate is impermanent; therefore, it can be changed.
Q: Then how can we change our fate?
A: We can change our fate through changing our personality; for, our personality mostly represents our fate.
Q: How can we change our personality?
A: Personality is mental constitution. When we want to change our physical constitution, we change our eating habits. Likewise, if we want to change our personality, we have to change our mental constitution. Also, if we want to change our mental constitution, we have to change our mental habits.
Q: How can we change our mental habits?
A: Mental habits are accumulation of the way we see, hear, talk, act, and think. Therefore, if we change the way we see, hear, talk, act, and think, our mental habits will be changed. Once mental habits are changed, personality will be changed. When personality is changed, fate also will be changed.
Q: What does it mean by changing the way we see, hear, talk, act, and think?
