아라비에 살고 있는 탁발승들은 승방을 세울 때 시주자들에게 무리한 요구를 하여 지나치게 크게 짓는 일이 빈번하였다네. 부처님은 전생의 이야기를 들려주며 세속의 탐욕과 이익이 무상함을 일깨워 주셨다네. 옛날 캄필라카 국에 판챨라 왕은 한 고행하는 수행자를 존경했다네. 매달마다 겸허한 마음으로 수행자를 찾아가 예경을 올리고 법을 청하였네. 그럴 때마다 수행자는 우주의 참진리를 일깨워 주었다네. 왕은 수행자에게 무엇이든 원하는 것이 있으면 다 드리겠다고 서원하였지만 수행자는 아무 것도 원하지 않았네. 12년 동안 계속된 왕의 서원이었다네. "왕이시여, 나의 서원은 해탈의 진리뿐입니다. 왕좌도 진귀한 보배도 탐나지 않습니다. 온 정성을 다하여 나라를 다스리고 법을 지키며 사람들에게 보시를 베푸시기 바랍니다." 말을 마치고 수행자는 히말라야 깊은 산속으로 들어가 버렸다네.

A Vow of an Ascetic Monks living in Arabi frequently asked offerers for too much to build big temples. Buddha told a story of Jataka to let them aware of the impermanence of the worldly greed and profits. Long time ago, King Panchala in the kingdom of kampilaka respected an ascetic. He went to see the asectic every month to show him respect and ask for a discourse. Every time he went to see him the ascetic awakened him to the truth of the universe. The king made a vow that he would give to the ascetic everything and anything he wanted. But the ascetic wanted nothing.The king cherished his vow for 12years. "O King, I only have a vow for the truth to Nirvana Neither crown nor treasures I want. I do hope you to rule your country with all your heart, to abide by the law and give mercy to people in need." With these last words, the ascetic went hiding himself deep into the Himalayas.
