태양이 끝없이 저 밝은 빛을 비추이는 것은,
만물이 스스로 허물을 보아 스스로 고치게 하기 위함이다.
부처님이 끝없이 자비 광명을 비추이는 것 역시,
중생이 스스로 허물을 비춰 보아 스스로 고쳐나가게 하기 위함이다.
내 허물을 남이 말하게 하지 말라.
아무리 작은 허물이라도, 남이 말하면 듣기 싫다.
또, 아무리 적은 허물이라도,
상대가 기분 상하지 않게 말할 수 있는 언변을 지닌 분은 극히 드물다.
그러므로 아무리 좋은 뜻이었다 하더라도 말이 오고 가면
그 가운데 뜻하지 않은 오해가 생기고 상처는 더 커진다.
그러므로 내 허물로 인해 다른 분이 허물을 짓는,
그런 우는 범하지 말라.
내 허물은 오로지 내 스스로 비춰 보라.
내가 발견하고 내가 참회하라.
바깥에 장애가 있을 때,
지혜로운 이는 언제나 내 스스로 비춰본다.
